On Red Tree - Location

It was still pretty chilly for me today, with on hill temperatures running -16 or -17 C. but I bundled up and headed out to see what was left of Tuesday’s monster storm. As it turned out, there was a bit more than I expected and I had no trouble finding undisturbed storm snow to play in. It was still light and deep, often running to mid thigh on me. All and all it was pretty much the kind of epic skiing that drives the Fernie hype machine.

It was a hard day to be a critic, for as far as I could tell, all early season concerns are now a thing of the past and the only place I found anything resembling icy patches was on Kangaroo and only an idiot would ski there. :-)

It is supposed to warm up over the next couple of days and more snow is forecast, perhaps quite a bit. I see Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch for the valley. I’m not sure what that means, but assume it will be good for those of us that ski.

At 16:15 it is -14 C at the house and cloudy.
