On Diamond Back looking towards village - Location

The skiing was still excellent today and you could still find deep fluffy turns, but you had to dig a little deeper for them. It was warmer, with a significant inversion making the upper mountain noticeably warmer than the bottom.

I heard talk of freezing rain this morning, despite the still chilly temperatures, but did not encounter any in my afternoon excursions until my last run. This had me stopping frequently to scrape the ice off of my goggles, but was not in evidence by the time I got my boots off and walked home.

It was relatively busy for a Friday in January and there were even some short line ups. I suspect word about this week’s snow may attract more than an average crowd this weekend. With lots of snow predicted in the next 24 hours and the likely resulting closures, it could be an “interesting” weekend.

The Polar Peak chair did operate for a short while this afternoon, suggesting they may have ferreted out their technical gremlins, but if the predicted snowfall does materialize, I suspect it will remain in bed for most, if not all, of the weekend.

At 16:15 it is -11 C at the house and overcast.
