There has been "rumours" about a new chairlift being installed on Polar Peak at Fernie Alpine Resort since the last season ended. The arrival of a chairlift in the parking lot, lifeline clearing and tower base blasting added fuel to the rumour fire. Oddly RCR had made no official announcements, and even seemed to be trying to hide the fact that there was indeed a chairlift being installed on Polar Peak.
Just today (August 30th 2011) RCR made the "official" announcement. Yet details remain very vague. Not a mention of the type of lift, length of lift etc. And no information on the supposed "22 new runs". Another piece of information that locals were hoping to find out was what the access policy would be for the Lizard headwall terrain.
Well now is your chance to finally have your questions answered by RCR!
For 2 hours on Wednesday September 7, 2011 between 11AM and 1PM Powder Matt will answer questions about the new lift and Fernie.

Can't wait to ask where the lift came from? It certainly isn't new. If you are dialed into RCR news, you would note that a certain fixed-grip, slug-of-a-triple chair (Gold Chair) was replaced at Nakiska 2 yrs ago. A year in hiding and then wha-bam, Fernie is getting a "new" lift. Explains the secrecy as they don't want anyone to figure this one out.
According to their website, the old Gold Chair (now the NEW Lift to Peak) ran at about a 10min ride and was originally built in 1986 (so 25yrs old).
